We are expanding our bioinformatics and data engineering team under the Computational Discovery unit and seek an Intern Software Developer to contribute to the development of innovative bioinformatics and data science tools towards the identification of novel cancer drug targets discovery and enhancement of our cloud-based computational biology platform. The Intern Software Developer will aid in the development of Compugen’s Computational Discovery analytics platform towards the in-silico identification of drug targets and novel biomarkers in immuno-oncology (IO).

The Intern position term is for 6 months full time.

– Implement API for existing computational biology algorithms to make them accessible to cross-functional users and stake holder of the developed platform
– Refactor existing code and implement in a new cloud environment or development language such as Python, towards accelerated performance and memory optimization
– Develop testing methodology to the developed code
– Present, visualize and communicate the engineering efforts being conducted to internal cross-functional stake holders

Required qualifications:

– M.Sc./B.Sc. or equivalent hands-on years of experience Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Sciences or Bioinformatics
– Strong programming and data science skills (Python preferred, R or JavaScript)
– Knowledge of Linux environment and shell scripting
– Ability to carry out independently software development tasks based on guidelines
– Experience working in cloud environment (AWS preferred) and using version control tools
– Experience in databases for handling large-scale datasets such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, RedShift, Apache SPARK
– A team player in a multidisciplinary environment
– Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
– Strong collaborative skills, professionalism, and commitment

– Experience in a commercial grade agile software development and databases (Python, AngularJs, NodeJs, Laravel, REST API, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB and Apache SPARK)
– Background in statistics, machine learning or in the analysis of large-scale datasets (AWS Sagemaker preferred)
– Cloud-based data science experience (AWS Preferred)
– Experience in cancer or immunology studies, pathways analysis and biological interpretation is an advantage
– Demonstrated impact via the development of novel innovative algorithms, and the adoption of available open source or licensed solutions
